Our program and outdoor education team
are delighted to work with school groups offering them an "outdoor classroom" experience. Outdoor education involves a living laboratory. It is an extension of the classroom where students can experience firsthand learning through action, exploration and discovery. Students learn from real-life problems and observations while at the same they they have profound opportunities for interpersonal and social development. In the process of living together in a 24-hour setting, students also develop skills in leadership, followership, decision-making, cooperation and communication.

Our staff will work with your teachers and parents to create a safe environment that will challenge and stretch them to explore new and challenging experiences. Our trained staff members will oversee the ropes course, challenge course and climbing wall. In addition to being trained on the outdoor elements our staff are all certified in Emergency Response First Aid and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer. A nurse is often available by request if the school cannot supply one.
We can accommodate up to 125 students at a time in September, early October and May. Mid-October - April group sizes are currently limited to 85 students.
For mid-week school groups, teachers and parent chaperones come at no additional charge with a minimum of 30 students. School groups are asked to bring 1 adult volunteer for every 10 students (up to 10 volunteers) to help with food service before, during and after each meal.
When planning your outdoor education program, remember to design classes that will utilize the mountain and forest environment. Don't plan activities that could or should be done in the classroom and/or school yard. It is best to do preparatory activities at school that can be extendedor built upon at Camp Elim.
Of course, you will need to be aware of the possibility of rain or snow. While there are some gamesand activities at Camp Elim for your use, you should also have some alternatives in mind in case of wet weather. Our staff will be happy to assist you in your planning.
